So, I've decided to tot up my book, film and TV show of the year, if only because everyone else seems to be doing it (or more accurately has already done it) and I'm nothing if not late to the party.
So first is my Book of the Year which goes to...The City and the City. It's a bit of a cop out as it wasn't released this year, but then I don't get to read that many books. So really the award should be "the best book I read this year". Which it is.
I'm sure I'll be more relevant on my TV show of the year (FRIENDS) and my film of the year (Pulp Fiction).
I am, of course, kidding about those two. Or am I? You'll just have to wait and see...
One geek's rants and opinions about films, TV, books or whatever comes into my head

Mind Enema
Sigh.
I finished "A Feast for Crows" (to give it it's flawed yet correct title) a few days ago. I'm now waiting for the next time I see one of my two friends who've already read "A Dance With Dragons" so that they can lend it to me. It's agonising.
More agonising than trudging through "Feast" (which in my opinion was way weaker than "A Storm of Swords") only to find out that I have to wait for the next book to catch up on Tyrion's escapades.
In the meantime, I'm settling into some of the True Blood books, as I really enjoy the series. So far they are MUCH lighter (and crapper) than the TV show. But after being immersed in the "Song of Ice and Fire" series for so long, it's actually quite pleasant to read something that requires no brain power to process.
It's like an enema for my mind.

Between The City and The City
Just finished reading "The City and the City" and really enjoyed it. One of the best books I've read in a long time, and such an original idea.
If you haven't read it, it's about two cities which exist in the same geographic location but the inhabitants of both are trained to "unsee" each other. It then becomes and existential detective story, with some really clever scenes.
I heartily recommend it!
